Qualifications Have an understanding of the styles and traditions of musical theatre Have an understanding and knowledge of instrumental pit orchestras Be a strong and willing collaborator Attend scheduled meetings of the full creative staff Be available for scheduled rehearsals and run-throughs between late February and late March Responsibilities The Pit Orchestra Conductor is responsible for the instrumental music in a musical production. Create rehearsal schedule for pit orchestra for Mon, March 16 before sitzprobe at 3:30 pm. Study musical score to identify potential struggles for singers and pit orchestra Consult with the director and vocal music director regarding edits made to dance music and incidental music Recruit and hire professional musicians for the orchestra as needed Conduct the pit during all combined cast and pit rehearsals – minimum of one Sitzprobe Coordinate with vocal music director regarding the music rehearsals with cast Coordinate professionally with student leadership (including stage managers) to run tech rehearsals and performances Conduct the pit during the tech rehearsal and all dress rehearsals Conduct the pit during all performances Supervise the set-up of the orchestra pit Keep orchestra pit clean and orderly during dress rehearsals and performances Consult with building operations manager regarding orchestra lights (if needed in pit) and sound needs (including mics and monitors) Time Commitment Be available for a band rehearsal: Monday, March 16 , 10 - 2 Be available for a sitz probe rehearsals: Monday, March 16, 3:30 - 6. Be available for rehearsals: Tuesday, March 173:30 - 6, Wednesday, March 18, 3:30 - 6, Thursday, March 19, 3:30 - 6, and Friday, March 20 3:30 - 6. Be available for tech rehearsals the week of the show: Sunday, March 22 10-4, Monday -Thurs day, March 23 - March 26, 3:15-8:30.
