Position Overview
The Plant Controller is responsible for leading and directing the accounting operations for one or two manufacturing facilities. This role oversees plant-level financial reporting, accounting processes, costing and internal controls while partnering closely with plant leadership and corporate finance teams to ensure accurate financial analysis, reporting and strategic decision support. The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a Plant Controller or Costing Manager within a job cost environment and will provide financial leadership to support operational performance and executive decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations for one or two plant locations
- Oversee monthly financial reporting and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls over accounting transactions and processes.
- Develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts
- Perform monthly variance analysis against budget and forecast, highlighting key differences to leadership.
- Provide financial analysis related to capital investments, pricing decisions and contract negotiations.
- Ensure customer invoicing is accurate and completed on time
- Monitor accounts receivable and ensure collections align with approved credit terms.
- Participate in weekly spend, production and forecasting meetings.
- Review and maintain accurate WIP and unbilled documentation, including purchase orders and supporting approvals.
- Ensure adherence to revenue recognition policies and maintain all required documentation.
- Prepare and submit government reporting requirements accurately and on deadline.
- Review biweekly payroll inputs and resolve discrepancies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- CPA or CMA preferred
- 10+ years of related accounting/finance experience
- Manufacturing experience strongly preferred
- Prior experience as a Plant Controller or Costing Manager
- Experience in a job cost environment
- Proficiency with accounting and tax preparation software
- Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, especially Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
