Job Title: PLC Controls Engineer

Location: Redford, MI

Duration: Long Term on W2 Contract

Job Overview:

The PLC Controls Engineer will play a key role in the planning, development, and implementation of control systems for new products and equipment in the facility. This position is responsible for overseeing projects from concept to completion, including managing vendors, ensuring safety and compliance, and providing technical support. The role requires expertise in Siemens controls and will involve working on long-term projects ranging from 8 months to 3 years. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in control systems, specifically Siemens, with the ability to lead and manage multiple projects independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the controls portion of internal or external projects, from vendor research and technical specification development to equipment installation and approval.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations and safety standards in all engineering practices.
  • Implement and support hardware and software for PLC, CNC, HMI controls, servo systems, and VFDs.
  • Lead the design and implementation of device-level networks and manufacturing monitoring systems with an emphasis on interfacing with higher-level systems.
  • Collaborate with vendors to conduct safety and functionality tests and ensure all equipment meets operational standards.
  • Manage project funding (CAPEX, NRE, EA1, EA2, and OP) and track spending to meet cost targets.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential shortfalls, and develop and implement countermeasures.
  • Lead project teams, including production, maintenance, product engineering, quality, and suppliers, and maintain communication with global ME teams.
  • Specify and manage control designs for new manufacturing equipment procurement.
  • Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, and other functional groups.
  • Oversee and coordinate with tradesmen, contractors, and hourly workers, ensuring timely completion of projects.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations on project status for management.
  • Travel internationally (~10%) to meet with vendors and oversee project activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in controls engineering, specifically using Siemens controls.
  • Strong experience in manufacturing controls equipment hardware and software design practices and standards.
  • Proficiency in using PC hardware and Microsoft Windows in a networked plant floor environment.
  • Experience in a project lead role.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical information effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to oversee tradesmen and contractors, and provide technical support across various functional teams.
  • Must be able to travel internationally
