Job Announcement

This position performs specialized administrative and investigative tasks pertaining to in progress police events at the Real Time Crime Center. The Real Time Crime Center staff is considered essential personnel. It is a 24/7 operation that solves crimes using data and technology. Must have a strong attention to detail and able to keep accurate records and reports. Must also be a reliable, self-starter and able to work in a small team setting and require minimal supervision. Additionally, should have knowledge of police investigations, able to analyze data, and process information quickly during active investigations. This position will also perform additional duties and responsibilities as required by the managers and supervisors.

Illustrative Duties

  • Contacts police departments, local and out-of-state;
  • Responds to front desk inquires by retrieving case records, etc., in an expeditious manner;
  • Responds to telephone callers and walk-in clients at the police station;
  • Maintains accounts on station supplies;
  • Makes inspections of station facilities;
  • Distributes incoming correspondence to appropriate personnel;
  • Accesses, queries, and updates various automated information systems to obtain necessary data requested by law enforcement personnel;

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of office procedures, General Orders, and Report Writing Manual;
  • Skill in using a personal computer, applicable software, and peripheral equipment;
  • Ability to exercise tact, good judgment, and initiative;
  • Ability to act quickly and decisively during emergencies;
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely;
  • Ability to keep records and write reports;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the public and fellow employees;
  • Ability to type at 45 words per minute (WPM) may be needed for certain assignments;
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations;
  • Ability to work effectively under minimal direct supervision;
  • Ability to maintain a high level of ethical standards;
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity and to be truthful at all times.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a GED issued by a state department of education; plus, two years of experience performing clerical and/or police communications work, including one year of experience equivalent to Police Citizen Aide I.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working a law enforcement setting. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office computer software, especially Word and Outlook.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:


  • Driver's license (required)
  • VCIN -VA Criminal Information Network- Required within 12 months and recertify every 24 months

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, driving record check and polygraph exam to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to use computer keyboard and to sit for long periods. However, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items under 5 lbs. in weight. Work is generally sedentary. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Panel interview; may include exercise.
