Schedule: Night Shift | 3x12-Hour (07:00 PM 07:30 AM) | Every other weekend required

Summary:
The Polysomnographer / Sleep Technologist is responsible for conducting overnight sleep studies (polysomnography) on adult and pediatric patients to assist in diagnosing and treating sleep-related disorders. This role involves setting up and monitoring complex sleep recording equipment, analyzing sleep stages and events, titrating PAP therapy, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the study. The technologist will interpret preliminary data, document findings accurately in Epic, and work collaboratively with physicians and respiratory care teams.
Responsibilities:

Set up and calibrate sleep monitoring equipment including EEG, ECG, EOG, EMG, airflow, oximetry, respiratory effort belts, and CO monitoring.

Perform overnight polysomnography studies for adult and pediatric patients.

Conduct diagnostic and treatment studies including baseline PSG, CPAP/BiPAP/ASV/VPAP titrations, MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Tests), and Home Sleep Tests.

Identify and document sleep stages, arousals, respiratory events, limb movements, and cardiac irregularities.

Recognize and respond to clinically significant events (e.g., arrhythmias, oxygen desaturation, seizures).

Perform mask fitting (full face, nasal mask, nasal pillow) and oxygen administration per physician orders.

Utilize and maintain Alice 6 G3 software and ResMed CPAP units.

Score sleep studies according to AASM standards and prepare preliminary reports for physician review.

Provide patient education on sleep disorders, PAP therapy, and follow-up care.

Ensure adherence to infection control and patient safety protocols.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including physicians, RRTs, and nurses to deliver optimal patient care.
Key Requirements:

Minimum Experience: 1 year of recent sleep lab experience working with both adult and pediatric patients.

Ratios: 1:2 for adults, 1:1 for pediatrics.

Charting System: Epic required.

Certifications Required:
-
RPSGT or RRT with SDS credential.
-
California State License (must be active prior to start).

BLS (AHA) certification.

Equipment: Proficiency with Alice 6 G3 and ResMed CPAP systems required.

Floating: May float between similar sleep lab units.

Weekends: Required every other weekend.

First-Time Travelers: Accepted.

Pending License: Not accepted.

Locals: Accepted (same rate applies within 50-mile radius).

RTO: Must be submitted at time of application.

Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off once per 2-week pay period.

Block Scheduling: Per manager discretion.
Education:
-
Graduate of an accredited Polysomnography or Respiratory Therapy program.

Associate or Bachelor's degree in Sleep Medicine, Respiratory Therapy, or related field preferred.
Experience:
-
At least 1 year of clinical sleep lab experience including both adult and pediatric patient populations.

Prior experience in acute care hospital or independent sleep lab setting preferred.

Familiarity with AASM standards, PAP titration, and advanced respiratory monitoring techniques.
License / Certification:

RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) or RRT with SDS (Sleep Disorder Specialist) required.

California State License required prior to start (no pending accepted).

BLS (AHA) certification required.
