Job Opportunity PORTABILITY ADMISSION SPECIALIST

This position is primarily responsible for administering rental assistance to eligible low-income families and individuals participating in the Housing Choice Voucher Program (also known as HCVP or Section 8), in accordance with program policies and procedures. This position is responsible for all Portability functions of the HCVP. Responsibilities include applicant screening of clients porting-in, maintaining all portability resident files, and counseling ineligible applicants. Maintains the portability billing for Port-In and Port-Out spreadsheets to ensure proper reporting of funds paid for clients/agencies. Reports to the Lease-Admission Coordinator.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform all leasing/occupancy functions to include conducting client and applicant interviews to confirm program eligibility for relocating clients; Coordinate and monitor the portability of tenants to and from other housing agency jurisdictions.
  • Schedule, interview, and determine eligibility for those people bringing their vouchers to MBCHA from another agency, commonly referred to as port-in(s); Maintain financial spreadsheets and monitor appropriate billing of housing assistance payments and other fees to and from other housing agencies for portable tenants; Monitor and update systems that provide controls for timely billings and accuracy of payments received.
  • Calculate tenant rent payments and housing assistance payments; Process interim as required upon admissions. Prepare and send 52665/50058 received to Port-In Agencies.
  • Maintain files on pending portability clients, supporting data and changes; File inactive and rejected applicants in appropriate area.
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure proper billing and payments for portability clients/agencies; Perform monthly account reconciliations to ensure receipt of payments from agencies billed.
  • Work to Maintain 97+% occupancy as determined by the monthly HUD-50058 Analysis Report; Maintain records to track certificates issued and expired.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One to two years of experience in general office and public contact work, preferably in the housing or social service field; or equivalent combination of training, education and experience
  • Strong background in Excel, Word and time management
  • Proof of personal auto insurance; acceptable driving record

Desired Skills

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Strong in oral and written communication
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Yardi
  • Some financial or analytical background
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Compensation Starting wage $16.35 based on education and experience. Excellent benefits offered.
