Clemson University: College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences: Agricultural Sciences Location: 247 McAdams Hall Open Date: Jan 15, 2026 Description We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to advance process-based crop modeling for rice from field to regional scales. The postdoc will lead calibration, validation, and applications of DSSAT (CERES-Rice) or similar models to quantify yield and climate risk using historical observations, field measurements, and CMIP6 climate projections. Responsibilities span model‑data integration, uncertainty analysis, and decision‑focused products (including refereed publications) for growers and stakeholders. Required Qualifications A PhD degree is required at the time of application. Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or related field. Demonstrated experience with process‑based crop models. Experience in analyzing climate datasets (e.g., CMIP6). Strong record of refereed publications, excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to work both independently and in teams. Preferred Qualifications Hands‑on experience with rice systems (management practices, cultivar parameters, and phenology). Hands‑on experience with DSSAT CERES‑Rice and/or similar models (APSIM) – calibration and sensitivity/uncertainty analysis, and batch/regional simulation. Strong academic training in GIS and using various remote sensing techniques. Strong research experience in process‑based modeling and using remote sensing products. Strong programming skills (e.g., Python and Fortran) is a must. Application Instructions Cover letter (1‑2 pages) summarizing relevant modeling experience. Curriculum vitae with publication list. 1‑page research statement outlining a proposed plan for field‑to‑region rice modeling (including calibration and uncertainty).
