Position Highlights

The School of Nutritional Sciences and Wellness leads in cutting-edge Research, outstanding Undergraduate and Graduate Programs, Cooperative Extension programs and Continuing Professional Education that advance the discovery and translation of the roles of nutrition and physical activity in optimizing health for people in Arizona, and beyond.

Nutritional Sciences and Wellness seeks candidates for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate IV for the research laboratory of Richard Simpson, PhD to pursue studies in exercise immune-oncology. Research involves utilizing human and murine tumor models in the context of exercise and muscle-derived cytokine signaling. Ongoing research includes novel approaches in activating anti-tumor responses through exercise and adrenergic receptor signaling, using exercise to alter immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, and preclinical studies involving collecting immune cells from exercising donors to manufacture therapeutic cell products, donor graft manipulation and pharmacological interventions. Candidates should have a PhD and a strong foundation in exercise physiology and tumor immunology. Candidates with at least three years of experience with mouse models, especially in exercise immune-oncology, are of particular interest. The successful candidate will join a team working in a research field with promising clinical applications.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Utilize human and murine tumor models in the context of exercise and muscle-derived cytokine signaling.
  • Conduct ongoing research which includes but is not limited to novel approaches in activating anti-tumor responses through exercise and adrenergic receptor signaling, using exercise to alter immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, and preclinical studies involving collecting immune cells from exercising donors to manufacture therapeutic cell products.
  • Donor graft manipulation and pharmacological interventions.
  • Immunological and molecular biological assays in vitro and in vivo.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Write manuscripts and knowledge of relevant literature.
  • Write and assist with grants.
  • Additional duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Exercise Physiology, Immunology, Biology or related discipline upon hire.
  • Expertise in exercise immune-oncology.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least three years of experience with mouse models, especially in exercise immune-oncology.
  • Proficiency in immunologic techniques, flow cytometry, proliferation and cytokine assays, cytotoxicity assays, T cell subset isolation, immunohistochemistry, molecular biological techniques, mammalian cell culture, and experience with murine models.
