Job Overview

Tekberry is seeking a Precision Engineer IV to support our client, a global leader in materials science and advanced manufacturing technologies.

This is a senior-level mechanical engineering role with a strong emphasis on precision engineering and precision motion systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end mechanical design, build, installation, and debug of precision motion systems and custom tooling used in fiber and connector manufacturing environments.

This role is highly hands-on and collaborative, working closely with cross-functional engineering, operations, and vendor teams to deliver robust, production-ready equipment.

As a Tekberry W2 employee, you will have access to health benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) options.

Role Purpose

The Precision Engineer IV serves as a technical leader responsible for designing and delivering high-precision mechanical systems that meet demanding manufacturing requirements. This role drives equipment design excellence, ensures reliable installation and startup, and resolves complex mechanical challenges to support our advanced manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

Precision Mechanical Design & Engineering

  • Design detailed mechanical systems for precision motion platforms, custom tooling, and fixturing used in manufacturing environments.
  • Apply advanced mechanical engineering principles including mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, metallurgy, and machine design.
  • Develop complete design packages, including detailed drawings, layouts, and specifications.

Equipment Build, Installation & Debug

  • Own the full lifecycle of equipment design, build, installation, startup, and debug at R&D facilities and factory sites.
  • Provide hands-on mechanical support during installation and troubleshooting activities.
  • Verify equipment builds and layouts against engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Confer with internal engineers and external vendors to resolve build, installation, or performance discrepancies.

Analysis & Validation

  • Perform and interpret structural FEA analyses to validate designs and ensure mechanical robustness.
  • Ensure equipment meets performance, reliability, and safety requirements for a manufacturing environment.

Cross-Functional & Vendor Collaboration

  • Work closely with multi-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, controls, facilities, IT, and operations.
  • Independently determine and develop technical approaches to complex engineering challenges.
  • Manage and coordinate with vendors, including equipment check-out activities prior to shipment.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics (hard requirement).
  • Minimum of 10 years of mechanical equipment design experience (hard requirement).
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical design.
  • Strong understanding of precision engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and building precision motion systems.
  • Competency in structural FEA analysis.
  • Experience with design, installation, startup, and debug of robust mechanical equipment in manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams.

Interview Process

  • Initial Interview: Microsoft Teams meeting with the hiring manager
  • Second Interview: Panel interview via Microsoft Teams

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 25% travel.
  • Travel to suppliers or vendors may be required for equipment checkout and validation prior to shipment.

Work Environment

  • Hands-on work in R&D labs and manufacturing facilities.
  • May require extended hours, weekends, or holidays to support installation schedules and production timelines.
