Ionbond – The Surface Engineers™

Ionbond provides advanced coating solutions for applications in the aerospace, medical, food contact, automotive, decorative, tooling and fuel cells industries. We offer a broad range of hard, low-friction, wear-resistant coatings based on PVD, PACVD and CVD technologies.

With 34 job coating centers in 15 countries in Europe, North America and Asia, Ionbond has one of the largest coating networks in the world. Ionbond is part of renowned Japanese industrial consortium IHI Group.

What defines this job?

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for the plant, providing expertise in developing, planning, mentoring, and coaching for all steps in the production of surface-engineered solutions in PVD coating operations.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to optimize plant performance, including product volume, quality yields, and workflow, in alignment with business needs and requirements.
  • Collaborate with Plant Management, U.S. Corporate Engineering, and the local Sales Manager to support application development and the scale-up of major programs.
  • Use statistical techniques to enhance process capability and conduct failure analyses to identify and resolve root causes.
  • Recommend and implement equipment and process modifications or upgrades to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to Ionbond's Quality Management System (QMS) based on ISO 9001 standards.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles, such as 5S, Kanban, and Value Stream Mapping, to streamline operations.
  • Train plant personnel on QMS procedures and work instructions related to manufacturing processes.
  • Perform other related duties as needed or assigned.

What do we ask?

The preferred candidate will have the following: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Materials Science/Metallurgy, or Plasma Physics. Experience working in the vacuum coating field with an emphasis in metallurgical applications and hands-on knowledge of PVD coatings and coating systems is preferred. Working knowledge of ISO 90001 quality standards. Strong problem-solving skills using industry standards such as 8D, Fishbone, Five Why’s or similar tools. Experience with PFMEA or other risk management analysis. Working knowledge of mechanical design with a proficiency in AutoCAD or similar software program. Experience leading small to medium-sized projects using Project Management tools. Strong communication skills; both verbal and written. Strong work ethic, attention to detail, organization, and time management skills. Able to travel throughout the U.S. and/or internationally as needed (minimally, 10%.) Able to pass a background check and be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
