The Product Design Engineer is responsible for designing new products and enhancing existing ones by translating Sales and Marketing functional specifications into robust engineering solutions. This role applies core engineering principles and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate and optimize product performance. Key responsibilities include performing machine design analyses—covering force, stress, and deflection—and developing components that meet structural and functional requirements. The engineer must have a strong understanding of mechanical component design, including rolling element bearings, bushings, cams, helical worm gear drives, and bolted joints or connections. This position requires both analytical rigor and practical design insight to ensure reliable, manufacturable, and high‑quality products. Education Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university. Experience Minimum of 3 years of related work experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficient in SolidWorks 3‑D design software or equivalent and experience performing Finite Element Analysis Able to apply engineering principles to develop component and simple system designs to meet specifications Familiar with various molding technologies including investment casting, die casting, injection molding and sand casting Able to develop an accurate project plan Effective written and verbal communication Duties and Responsibilities Work with cross functional teams to develop new products and conduct design reviews Product engineering activities: troubleshooting performance issues, root cause analysis, and product design enhancements Project planning and implementation using MS Project or similar tools Use SolidWorks 3‑D software to build solid models and create cross-sectional layouts. Able to perform tolerance stack‑up analysis, and apply GD&T Develop product test plans, identify instrumentation and measurements required, and perform testing to validate new product designs Must understand fundamental manufacturing processes for wrought and cast, gray and ductile iron, steel, stainless steel, bronze, aluminum, and plastics Travel Limited travel may be required Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee for successful performance of the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. The work is predominantly sedentary and requires minimal or negligible physical exertion. The employee is normally seated; however, the nature of the work allows for periods of standing or walking at will. Strength to lift or carry files weighing up to ten (10) pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screen, and ability to hear and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Works majority of the day in a climate‑controlled environment, except for occasionally performing work on the manufacturing floor, which is subject to moderate changes in temperature. The manufacturing environment is subject to moderate changes in temperature and the employee will be exposed to typical hazards of noise, flying debris, and overhead hazards requiring the use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). This position may also require overtime as necessary. The company reserves the right to revise or change job duties as the need arises.
