Location: Schaumburg, IL Position Type: Full Time Wage: $85,000 – $140,000 Department: Engineering Position: Product Development Engineer (Mechanical Design) Responsibilities The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for concept generation, design, verification and qualification of high‑speed IO products for 112 Gb signaling and beyond. The engineer will ensure the product design is manufacturable and meets customer requirements, including electrical, mechanical and environmental specifications. Responsibilities include: Conceptualize, design, and develop cable assemblies and/or IO connector systems from initial proposal to successful tooling and product qualifications. Perform Design FMEA, Tolerance Analysis, Design for Manufacturability, FEA Analysis, and Risk Analysis. Work with marketing and customers to define needs and functional performance requirements; assess technical risk. Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing disciplines (Stamping, Plating, Molding, Assembly) to optimize design for production processes. Lead product design reviews and verify accuracy of product drawings, ensuring proper use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Work with Materials Engineering to specify metal and polymer material choices based on performance, pricing and global sourcing. Present product concepts to customers early in the development cycle, interpret feedback, and incorporate revised requirements into the design. Define product, application, and packaging specifications. Define verification and product qualification test plans. Manage resolution of first‑article inspections. Work closely with NPI and manufacturing engineering to transition products to manufacturing. Interact with global associates as needed during development and provide mentorship as appropriate. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%. Qualifications Minimum of 1–3 years experience; familiarity with high‑speed cable assembly and/or connector design preferred. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or equivalent coursework and related experience. Knowledge and experience with design for signal integrity performance preferred. Industry Standards knowledge and experience is a plus. Experience and skilled use of SolidWorks, FEA simulation software (ANSYS preferred), GDT principles, and statistical engineering methods. Ability to work effectively within a project team and direct the activity of others as needed. Ability to communicate well with global customers and all levels of the organization, including management, marketing, sales, process engineering, test labs, and other engineers and designers.
