Position Description:

The Product Engineer plays an important role in supporting the design and product lifecycle of electrical distribution components by providing technical sales support to end users and customers, supporting manufacturing processes, and developing, updating and maintaining engineering documentation. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and strong communication to serve as a bridge between engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams.

Position Responsibilities/Duties:

1. Product Development and Improvement:
• Contribute to the design and development of new products and enhancements to existing products based on customer feedback and market needs.
• Create prototypes and assist in product testing to validate designs and improve functionality.
• Conduct feasibility studies and testing to validate designs and ensure products meet performance and reliability standards.
• Provide input for failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to identify potential risks and implement corrective measures.
• Conduct review of alternative materials and parts, as required, to ensure viability and compatibility against performance requirements.
2. Engineering Documentation and Design:
• Create, maintain, and update 2D and 3D engineering drawings and models for components, sub-assemblies, and parts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Ensure that all drawings and models meet company standards and follow GD&T standards.
• Document control of engineering information within the company’s ERP system to ensure all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
• Ensure designs adhere to applicable industry standards such as IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and internal quality specifications.
3. Technical Support:

o   Serve as a technical resource for customers, distributors, and end-users, providing support during product selection, installation, operation and troubleshooting.

o   Assist in preparing technical documentation, presentations, and application guides to support product marketing, customer education and decision making.

o   Work with quality, procurement, and supply chain teams to ensure product compliance with internal and external requirements.

o   Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to help address customer inquiries, develop solutions and support product launches and customer training.

1. Manufacturing Support:

o   Work closely with production and test personnel to address technical issues and ensure manufacturability of products.

o   Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

o   Participate in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve manufacturing or quality issues.

Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

• 5–7 years of experience in product engineering or a related role within the electrical distribution components industry; familiarity with components such as tap changers, switches, bushings, or wildlife guards, is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems for document control.
• Familiarity with international and industry standards such as IEEE, ANSI, IEC, CSA, UL/cUL.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
• Knowledge of machining, casting, molding, and assembly techniques used in electrical component production (preferred).
