Role Description 

The role of Digital Buildings and IoT Audit Engineer is to provide technical-related audit surveys and project management in the field of IoT technologies, applications, processes, standards for FPC and our Clients. Working as a part of the FPC IoT Services Group, the role will be responsible for delivering audits and other related services to FPC’s clients in order to successfully fulfill the Scope of Work (SoW) outlined in the Agreement, Proposal, or Engagement Letter between FPC and it’s Clients, together with any other relevant client-side documents such as a Business Requirements Document (BRD), policies, standards, and processes.  

The Digital Buildings and IoT Audit Engineer represents FPC in delivering services to our Clients and when working with industry partners and suppliers, as such they shall maintain the highest standards of technical and professional performance, and conduct themself with honesty and integrity at all times. 

In addition to client-facing role and responsibilities, the Digital Buildings and IoT Audit Engineer is expected to be an active member of the IoT Services team, to make a positive contribution to the development of the team and wider FPC business, working effectively with all FPC colleagues to successfully deliver projects and support FPC’s business objectives. The role will be working closely with the Digital Building Consultants that leverage information from the audits to create designs to address any issues that are discovered. This role will also be on a professional development track to develop into a Digital Building Consultant role.

Key Responsibilities

Working as part of a team, and together with client representatives, project managers, FM, and local maintenance contractors & installers, the IoT Auditor will complete a comprehensive audit of IoT and Controls systems in client properties to identify cybersecurity and operational risks related to them. Audit scope includes, but is not limited to:   

To complete a thorough and detailed onsite audit at client premises in accordance with agreed processes and procedures to identify and document all IP capable in-scope IoT and building controls systems present including: 

  • Attending meetings, including: 
    • Pre-audit scheduling (Video Conference) 
    • Kick-off meetings (onsite, in-person)
    • Risk assessment meetings (video call with client project team) 
    • Audit wrap up (video call)
  • Review of technical documentation and information provided pre-audit 
  • Full physical audit and inspection of all client occupied facilities
  • Systems, applications (including version, licensing, etc.), head-end compute and devices, their ownership, design, operation, and integration - including between client owned/operated systems and to any third parties (e.g. Landlord FM, catering, etc.) or cloud systems 
  • IP network design including physical network connectivity, high-level network topologies, and detailed schematics 
  • Device-level data including: 
    • Make, model, firmware 
    • Location 
    • The technical configuration includes function, communications, controls protocols, IP network configuration
    • Obvious/factory default user credentials 
    • Operational state, including any faults and alarms or known maintenance issues 
    • Vendor technical product information (datasheets, user manuals, End of Life and current product sets)
    • Function / operation 
    • Presence, connection to, and function of serial systems, devices, and plant 
  • Notification of potential cybersecurity and operational risks identified during the audit to the client team in accordance with defined risk assessment criteria and agreed to procedures
  • Deliver a comprehensive set of quality-controlled audit deliverables to defined audit standards, uploaded to audit drive folder, including: 
    • Summary audit report 
    • High-level network topology drawing 
    • Detailed network schematic drawing
    • Completed audit workbook detailing building, contractor, system/device asset configuration information
    • Annotated floorplans showing device locations and key information 
    • Audit photos of all devices, control panels, application headend screenshots, and alarms/event logs
  • Responding to and facilitating (with local FM and maintenance/install contractors) requests for further information in respect of audit data Quality Assurance, and identified potential risks and their mitigations

In scope systems include, but are not limited to, the following and their associated networks/connections: 

  • Building Management Systems
  • Lighting Control Systems
  • Blinds / Drapes / Facade Management Systems  
  • Occupancy Sensing / Multi-Sensor Systems 
  • Energy Management / Metering Systems 
  • Emergency Power (UPS), Generators and CRAC 
  • Power Management 
  • Life safety systems including lifts, escalators, and fire protection/alarm systems 
  • HVAC / MEP and Plant 
  • Food / Catering Systems
  • Audio Visual Systems 
  • Fitness 
  • IoT Devices / Systems and applications 
  • Third-Party (eg Landlord) control systems 
  • Cloud-connected IoT Systems 

The results of this process will be presented to the Client PM’s team for review. The documents the IoT Audit Engineer creates for our cl as part of performing the services will be clear and concise, and references between such documents will be consistent.

Requirements

Experience and Qualifications

The Digital Buildings and IoT Audit Engineer should possess experience and qualifications in the following: 

  • Familiarity and comfort travelling to client sites and navigating the requirements of travel as well as arriving at a client facility and connecting with the appropriate points of contact.
  • Experience investigating and understanding the on-site conditions to identify and understand the target assets or systems, but also to be curious/inquisitive to understand the site and systems to potentially identify and capture additional information that is of value. 
  • Experience with IoT and Control systems including Building Management Systems / Building Automation Systems (BMS/BAS), Lighting Control Systems (LCS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), 
  • Sound knowledge of IP networking, including IP addresses, network ports, subnets, managed and unmanaged switches, structured data cabling (Cat 5e/6/8, fiber optic), routers, firewalls, cellular, WiFi 
  • Understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals 
  • Familiarity with controls protocols such as BACnet, ModBus, MS/TP, DALI, etc.
  • Familiarity with IoT solutions and Cloud technologies is an advantage 
  • High-Level Integration (HLI) experience of control  systems
  • Sound knowledge and experience with design and engineering of building controls systems and headend applications, preferably with the familiarity of manufacturers such as Easy I-O, Johnsons, Honeywell, Tridium Niagara, Sauter, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Trend, and others
  • Highly skilled in project execution and management
  • Effective communications ability, both verbally and written
  • Responsive team player with organisational ability to prioritise among numerous concurrent tasks 
  • Ability to self manage, remain delivery  focused and pay attention to detail, to meet tight project deadlines
  • Task and goal-oriented and capable of functioning in an entrepreneurial setting
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear, technically documentation/reports and be proficient with Google G-Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms

Location

This role is based within the US or Canada and the candidate will have proper accommodations to work remotely. The candidate will ideally be located in or near a major city with access to an airport. There will be regular travel to client sites across the US and Canada. There is potential for the candidate to travel to countries outside of North America to support FPC’s global demands if required.  When not travelling for business, work will be conducted from home or remote location. FPC utilises a remote work policy for teams across North America and offers support to establish an ergonomic work environment.   

Travel Expenses

FPC will pay for flights, accommodation, meals, and associated costs for project delivery. Expenses must follow the FPC travel and expense policies. The policy allows for the candidate to arrange their own travel, following the guidelines, or have travel and accommodations made on their behalf.

Eligibility to Work

Must be eligible to work in the US or Canada and possess a valid passport for international travel to locations across the Globe and valid for at least 6 months remaining prior to expiration at the time of travel for any project.
