Job Description:

The Temporary Production Electrician at Boston Conservatory at Berklee (BCB) assists the Lighting Supervisor in executing all lighting and electrical requirements for BCB productions, including off-campus productions. The Production Electrician is responsible for maintaining and disseminating lighting production notes; maintains and repairs lighting equipment as needed; and, in coordination with the Lighting Supervisor, covers technical rehearsals, hangs, focuses and strikes.

As part of the Performance Services department, the Production Electrician reports to the Lighting Supervisor; works closely with the technical directors, stage managers, and full production team; collaborates closely with guest artists, faculty, and students; and supports the supervision of overhires and student workers.

This is a temporary position that will work through the Spring 2024 semester, with possibility of extension. The position is paid an hourly rate of $27-30, and is overtime eligible. Nights and weekends will be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Lighting Supervisor on all lighting hang, focus, and strike calls
  • Coordinate with Lighting Supervisor on coverage of technical rehearsals, including weekends and evenings
  • Ensure that all lighting production notes are completed during technical rehearsals and promptly disseminated
  • Maintain all lighting equipment and repair, or coordinate repairs, as needed
  • Support the training and supervising of BCB student workforce during productions, ensuring that student workers are trained for run-crew duties and safe practices
  • Assist in the supervision of overhire workers for work calls.
  • Ensure that proper safety and housekeeping measures are observed by all under their direction


MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years experience as a professional theatrical electrician / master electrician or similar experience
  • Experience in multidisciplinary performing arts preferred
  • Experience working in higher education institutions preferred


KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Experience preferred in electronics, Vectorworks, Lightwright, stage rigging systems, ETC Eos Technology, and supervising students or volunteers.
  • General knowledge of theater, musical theater, and opera production needs


SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Must be able to work independently, take direction, move with urgency, remain diplomatic and calm in fast-paced situations
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Dropbox, and/or similar formats for record-keeping and communications


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Occasional supervision of Production Technician overhires
  • Occasional training and supervision of student workers


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Indoor environments, some with low light: stages, backstage areas, dressing rooms, costume shop, props storage, office spaces
  • Local travel may be required (valid drivers license necessary)


SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC:

  • Seated and standing positions
  • Stairs, ladders (must be able to climb ladders up to a height of 24 feet)
  • Must be able to regularly lift objects of up to 40 lbs
  • Reaching up to shelves
  • Frequent nights and weekends required
