Job Duties

**This position may be required to assist in supporting Environmental Health as well as our Comprehensive Harm Reduction (CHR) Program. Our Environmental Health program is responsible for onsite septic and well permitting, restaurant inspections, and the rabies program. Our CHR program is an evidence-based program intended to reduce the negative impact of drug use and assist with preventing HIV, hepatitis C, other infections, overdose, and death.

Independently performs technical office tasks in support of a single program area
regularly requiring application of policy and procedures. Characteristic activities:
Serves as contact and information resource for one or more programs, may perform
eligibility determinations for all services available in health programs; serves as lead
worker to direct, advise and train others; designs and directs workflow processes;
researches and processes claims; collects data and prepares reports on program
activities. May provide performance input regarding staff, to appropriate supervisor.

The Virginia Department of Health offers 12 paid holidays, medical, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement plans (including 401a Cash Match and 457 Deferred Compensation Plan) as well as sick, family/personal, and annual leave.


Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of office procedures, computer and software technology, use of policies & procedures and customer service
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, orally and written;
Strong organizational skills and experience with software applications and
Microsoft Office products (i.e. WORD, EXCEL, and database entry) and general office equipment (copier, fax, calculator);
Ability and experience with setting up and maintaining files & manuals
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to follow and apply established procedures and applicable policies
