Job Duties

The Richmond City Health District is a part of the Virginia Department of Health and exists to protect and improve the health of all Richmond City residents by providing clinical services, nutrition counseling, environmental health services, vital records, disease prevention and monitoring, emergency planning, and many other health-related programs. As part of VDH, this is a state position with comprehensive state benefits that include affordable health insurance options, life insurance, disability plans, retirement plans, paid holidays and paid leave.

We are currently seeking a Program Support Technician to be the first point of contact for the Environmental Health Division by providing professional and courteous service to our walk-in customers and responding to the public's inquiries over the phone. The program support technician will also provide administrative support to the Environmental Health team by accepting applications and processing payments for permits; accurately and efficiently entering Division data into the Environmental Health Database and other Microsoft Office programs; processing staff travel vouchers and daily activity sheets; and accurately filing and maintaining environmental health records including permits and inspection records.
Independently performs technical office tasks in support of a single program area regularly requiring application of policy and procedures. Characteristic activities: Serves as contact and information resource for one or more programs; serves as lead worker to direct, advise and train others; designs and directs workflow processes; researches and processes claims; collects data and prepares reports on program activities. May provide performance input regarding staff to appropriate supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of office procedures, computer and software technology, use of policies & procedures and customer service
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, orally and written
Strong organizational skills and experience with software applications and Microsoft Office products (i.e. WORD, EXCEL, and database entry) and general office equipment (copier, fax, calculator)
Ability and experience with setting up and maintaining files & manuals
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to follow and apply established procedures and applicable policies


Additional Considerations

Experience with environmental health
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Experience with the Environmental Health Database (EHD)
