R.J. Watson is a bridge bearing & expansion joint manufacturer involved with high-profile infrastructure projects across all of North America and stretching across the globe. We are looking to hire a Project Engineer to support the growth of our company and help bolster our team.  

This role will be within the Engineering and Quality Group and the individual will focus on design of custom engineered products to meet the customer’s needs with an emphasis on performance, constructability and quality. Engineers will work to develop designs catered to meet the needs of the project, create supporting calculation sets for approval, and work alongside the drafting team to develop shop drawings for design approval and shop fabrication.

Regular duties to include:

  • Manage projects from design through release for fabrication, maintaining schedules and estimates.
  • Read, review, and interpret project specifications and plans.
  • Perform detailed design calculations using computer software related to the engineering field.
  • Specify and prepare bill of materials for material purchasing requirements.
  • Work closely with CAD designers to develop detailed shop drawings.
  • Communicate regularly with customers, engineers, contractors, as well as other company personnel.
  • Provide support for product fabrication, testing, and installation as needed.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 0 to 5 years of experience as a project engineer.
  • EIT Required. Ability to obtain PE license in the near future.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong technical and organizational skills.
  • Experience with structural steel design.
  • Working knowledge of current AASHTO, ASTM and AISC specifications.
  • Familiarity with elastomers a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and ERP software applications.
  • AutoCAD and Solidworks a plus.
