Project Engineer IIIEmployment Type: Contract through 12/31/2025 (High potential for extension)Location: Hamilton Township, MIWork Schedule: Hybrid (Willingness and ability to travel to compressor station sites approximately 3-5 days per week.) Position SummaryClient is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer III to join the Gas Compression Project Engineering team. This mechanical engineering role focuses on supporting modifications to existing facilities and managing new construction projects at natural gas compressor stations. The Project Engineer will lead or support multidisciplinary project teams and collaborate closely with project managers, system engineers, environmental specialists, operations personnel, contractors, and vendors to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. Key ResponsibilitiesLead engineering support throughout project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, conceptual design, cost estimating, and project closeout.Oversee and coordinate detailed design development by external Engineers of Record.Review and verify engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documents to ensure compliance with design standards, codes, and project specifications.Develop and enforce engineering, equipment, and construction specifications for procurement and construction contracts.Lead technical bid evaluations for engineering services, equipment, materials, and construction contracts.Facilitate effective communication among all project stakeholders to align technical objectives and expectations.Conduct supplier facility inspections to verify quality and adherence to specifications.Provide field engineering support, troubleshooting, and resolution of construction-related issues.Assist with testing, commissioning, and startup of new equipment and facilities.Identify and recommend corrective actions for technical issues during project execution or initial operation.Collaborate with project management and controls teams to support schedule and budget development.Participate in project meetings and contribute to project coordination and documentation. QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.Minimum 5 years of professional engineering experience in applied mechanical engineering.Proven experience with design, construction, and operation of natural gas compressor station equipment.Strong understanding of natural gas and balance of plant systems.Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including:CFR 49 Part 192 (Transportation of Natural and Other Gas by Pipeline)Michigan Gas Safety Standards Guide (MGSS)ASME Codes & Standards (B31.8, B31.3, B31.1, B16.5/16.47, BPVC)API Specifications (API 5L, API 6D, API 1104)Experience in procurement and contract management for engineered materials, equipment, and professional services.Ability to independently evaluate and apply engineering principles, adapt to project needs, and make sound judgments.Willingness and ability to travel to compressor station sites approximately 3-5 days per week.
