Position Overview
The Visual Merchandiser at Montana Supply is a part-time, year-round, hourly employee responsible for the creation, execution, and maintenance of in-store product displays that drive sales and enhance the guest experience.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
The Visual Merchandiser (hereafter referred to as the Employee) has three main areas of responsibility: Visual Merchandising, Monitoring & Encouraging Sell-Through, and Operations Assistance.
1. Visual Merchandising
Ensure that store displays are visually appealing, well-organized, and stocked to attract and engage customers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead Retail Sales Leads during merchandising shifts to ensure store standards are met.
- Conduct merchandising training for Retail Sales Leads.
- Collaborate with buyers and store leadership to bring visual merchandising and guest experience to life.
- Implement brand standards through effective product placement and intuitive store navigation.
- Execute powerful product presentations aligned with company standards to drive sell-through.
- Seek input from the buying team and merchandising director to highlight key products.
- Ensure products are correctly priced, labeled, and placed in backstock and on the sales floor.
- Coordinate with the Associate Merchandising Director for promotions and product launches.
- Communicate with the Store Manager regarding layout changes,
freshness, and store standards. - Manage the visual merchandising budget, including sourcing materials and fixtures.
- Order branded fixture offerings from sales representatives.
- Design and present seasonal and exterior window displays for approval and feedback.
- Implement visual merchandising strategies based on seasonality and stock levels.
- Install or oversee setup of windows and in-store displays.
- Research lifestyle and design trends to inform visual merchandising strategy.
2. Monitoring & Encouraging Sell-Through
- Regularly compare sales floor and backstock levels; replenish and refresh displays as needed.
- Identify low-stock products and determine appropriate markdown or relocation strategies.
- Notify buyers of fast-turning or low-stock items.
- Scan apparel and footwear backstock weekly to maintain stock accuracy.
3. Operations Assistance
- Analyze sales reports and inventory forecasts to propose markdowns and promotions.
- Assist with post office runs at least three times per week to ensure timely deliveries.
- Participate in interdepartmental meetings to identify areas for improvement.
- Train and support Sales Staff in merchandising techniques and product placement.
- Support the receiving team during peak seasons to ensure timely product placement.
- Assist with store events and additional directives related to visual presentation.
Skills, Competencies, and Other Expectations

- Working knowledge of visual merchandising trends and best practices.
- Knowledge of Lightspeed Retail POS. (Preferred, but not required)
- Minimum of two years of retail experience.

Working Relationships
The Visual Merchandiser interacts regularly with various departments to ensure alignment across store operations.
Associate Merchandising Director
- Submit 14-day written notice for end of employment.
- Submit time-off requests via BambooHR.
- Request additional training or information as needed.
Merchandisers
- Collaborate on display adjustments and in-store promotions.
- Assist in larger floor resets.
Buyers
- Receive directives regarding discontinued items, promotions, and product updates.
- Communicate low-stock or top-selling items.
- Request approval for fixture needs and floor plan adjustments.
Store Managers & Sales Team
- Communicate sales, promotions, new products, and events.
- Assist with markdowns and visual standards.
- Provide ongoing training and support.
- Participate in weekly walkthroughs to maintain store standards.
Shipping & Receiving Manager
- Communicate low-stock priorities.
- Support receiving during bottlenecks or peak seasons.
- Report any price or label discrepancies.
