Position: Public Information Officer

Duration: 6 months

Location: Carson City, Nevada (Hybrid- 40% onsite, 60% at least 2 days a week onsite)

Responsibilities

  • Managing the public relations and information program for the state of Nevada, with a focus on modernizing our elections software and hardware.
  • Strong background in communications, public relations, and journalism, along with a passion for engaging with the public and media.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive public relations and information strategy to promote the modernization of Nevada's election software and hardware.
  • Write and distribute press releases, newsletters, and informational materials to inform the public and media about the project's progress and milestones.
  • Create and maintain a strong social media presence to engage with the public and promote transparency and awareness of the modernization efforts.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with state and local government officials, media representatives, and the public.
  • Respond to inquiries and direct questions from the media and public in a timely and professional manner.
  • Plan and coordinate press conferences, media events, and other public relations activities related to the project.
  • Monitor and analyze media coverage and public opinion to inform public relations strategies and tactics.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the project during crisis or emergency situations, ensuring clear and consistent communication with the public and media.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure the successful execution of public relations and information initiatives.
  • Manage the public communications portion of the departmental crisis disaster response plan.

Requirements:

  • At least three years of professional experience in administering or directing a public information program, including media relations, content creation, and public speaking.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications, or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience in crisis communications and emergency management.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create engaging and accurate content for various audiences.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, and content management systems.
  • Knowledge of public relations principles and practices, as well as the ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Experience in managing a public relations team, including the ability to delegate tasks and provide guidance and support.
  • Familiarity with Nevada state government and election processes is a plus.
