Public Safety Officer - PT Under the general direction of the Safety & Security Coordinator, the Public Safety Officer (PSO) monitors campus safety, enforces security policies, and protects staff, students, and visitors. The role involves patrol, incident response, visitor access control, and collaboration with campus and external emergency services. Posting Details Department: Safety & Security | Location: Beatrice | Employment: Part‑time, PT Responsibilities Assume assigned posts and check equipment for proper operation. Review duty logs, calendars, memos, and emails before shift. Carry SCC‑issued cell phone for communication and respond immediately to calls or emergencies. Conduct continuous patrols of campus facilities, parking lots, and recreational areas to deter theft, vandalism, and other security risks. Attend sporting and campus events as needed. Respond to calls for service from faculty, staff, and students. Provide physical, personal, and crime‑prevention security. Serve as liaison for law enforcement and emergency responders. Investigate suspicious persons or incidents and report to local police when necessary. Escort students or staff returning to vehicles upon request. Issue warnings or violations for improper parking and other policy violations. Report unsecured areas or safety hazards and follow up on escalated situations. Complete a Daily Activity Report (DAR) at shift conclusion. Respond to fire alarms and medical calls; perform fire watches when appropriate. Execute college emergency/disaster response plans and coordinate with campus administrators. Provide de‑escalation support during confrontation situations. Assist with Clery and Title IX complaints and related reporting. Monitor severe‑weather alerts and follow SCC Safety Management Plan. Perform other duties assigned by the Safety & Security Coordinator. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Familiarity with the Standard Response Protocol (Hold, Secure, Lockdown, or Evacuation). Professional handling of confidential information. Excellent verbal communication, tact, and professionalism. Proficiency with database and office software. Basic computer and telephone system skills. Analytical judgment to assess safety threats. Problem‑solving and troubleshooting. Physical stamina for extended walking and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Ability to work varied days, hours, shifts, and locations. Compliance with background checks, certifications, and training requirements. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Six (6) months of work experience in security, safety, law enforcement, or first‑responder field, or an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field. Desired Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Public Safety, or related field. One (1) year or more of security or law‑enforcement experience. Experience as a certified Law Enforcement Officer or First Responder. Salary & Benefits Salary: $19.38 per hour Benefits available for part‑time regular employees: TIAA retirement plan (Roth, SRA, or 457(B)), group vision plan (employee‑paid premiums). The 28‑hour workweek is generally scheduled between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., Monday–Friday, with occasional Saturday daytime hours.
