The UW Libraries has an outstanding full time opportunity for a Public Services Technician.

Under the general supervision of the Branch Operations Staff Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing public and collection maintenance services at the Art, Built Environments, Drama, Engineering, Foster Business, Mathematics Research, and Music Libraries. Regular schedule is Monday Friday, 10:00 a.m. 6:30 p.m. May be scheduled days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Schedule may vary during interims and summer quarter.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collection Maintenance
  • Creates and updates item and holdings records in UW Libraries Integrated Library System (ILS).
  • Identifies, evaluates, and processes materials needing replacement, repair, binding, or re-marking.
  • Processes and maintains campus-wide course reserves materials. Communicates effectively with users regarding relevant policies.

    Circulation Services
  • Resolves complex circulation problems. Explains basics of Library operations, policies, and circulation of materials to users. Instructs and assists users in locating materials using the Libraries online catalog.
  • Assists users with providing replacement items for items lost or damaged, in consultation with appropriate library partners.
  • Processes search requests, coordinates claim return materials, and prepares Library evidence for appeals for collections managed by Branch Operations Services.

    Additional Duties
  • Communicates appropriately, effectively and positively. Plays an active role in staying informed and participating in webinars, meetings, and events.
  • Assists with major unit and departmental projects.
  • Directs the work of student employees as needed.
  • Collaborates with team and unit colleagues to prioritize and equitably distribute work.
  • Refines and maintains the accuracy of the procedures and resources used in our work processes.
  • Collects and analyzes data to improve the operations and services offered by our libraries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of applicable library technical experience, including one year beyond the entry level OR equivalent education/experience.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and precision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting equitable access and service to a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly explain complex services and policies in person, over the phone, and in written correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Familiarity with Ex Libris's Alma and Primo systems.

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
    Must be able to lift 25-60 pound boxes and crates and push heavy book trucks.
