Automation Personnel Services is looking for a Purchasing Agent for a company based in Westwego, LA. In this role you will primarily be responsible for our supply chain, sourcing and procuring essential materials while ensuring cost efficiency, top quality, and timely delivery. You'll collaborate closely with teams—including operations, engineering, quality assurance, and logistics to support production needs and uphold company standards.
Pay Rate
$24-$30 per hour based on experience

Schedule and Hours
Monday through Friday, 8 00 am to 5 00 pm.

Purchasing Agent Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans aligned with production requirements and budget goals.
- Prepare, issue, and manage RFQs, RFPs, and POs using our ERP/purchasing systems.
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers while maintaining strong relationships with existing partners.
- Negotiate supplier agreements, terms, and pricing to secure optimal value.
- Track PO progress, proactively resolving any delivery, quality, or cost variances.
- Maintain vendor performance metrics and conduct regular reviews.
- Monitor market conditions to anticipate price and supply fluctuations.
- Generate purchasing and performance reports for management review.
- Ensure transparency and compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and ethical practices.
- Collaborate with logistics to facilitate efficient material receipt and inventory control.
- Assist in resolving supply chain disruptions and expedite critical orders.
Purchasing Agent Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Management, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- 3+ years of purchasing experience—ideally in manufacturing, building materials, or industrial sectors.
- Proficient negotiation and analytical skills.
- Strong understanding of supply chain best practices.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and multitasking capacity.
- Ability to travel occasionally (<10%).
