This position reports directly to the President and is a critical driver of operational excellence and company growth.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Procurement & Planning

•        Develop a company-wide procurement strategy that creates consistency, predictability, and accountability across all purchasing functions.

•        Build sourcing strategies for current and future machine platforms, identifying material gaps and supply risks before they impact production.

•        Leverage demand trends, supplier lead times, cost history, and production forecasts to create forward-looking material plans.

•        Partner with engineering early in the design process to influence supplier selection, validate manufacturability, and build accurate BOM structures for new products.

•        Align material planning with upcoming sales activity, new product introductions, and long-range production goals.

Vendor Ownership & Negotiation

•        Take full ownership of supplier relationships, including qualification, performance management, pricing, and long-term partnership development.

•        Lead high-value negotiations covering volume pricing, long-term agreements, and cost-reduction initiatives that improve total value.

•        Identify new suppliers and diversification opportunities to reduce risk, shorten lead times, and support new machine development.

Process Building & Continuous Improvement

•        Build a scalable procurement operating system that standardizes purchase order creation, approvals, vendor setup, and material planning.

•        Redesign material flow from receiving through staging to production, reducing downtime, increasing visibility, and eliminating rework.

•        Identify root causes of recurring supply issues and implement permanently resolve them.

•        Document workflows and procedures to ensure the department can grow beyond a single person and operate predictably as the company scales.

Daily Operations (Executed with a Strategic Lens)

•        Issue and manage purchase orders while staying proactive about future needs, potential shortages, and supplier delays.

•        Maintain accurate inventory levels based on actual consumption, engineering changes, and production requirements.

•        Oversee inbound freight, logistics coordination, and receiving documentation with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.

•        Ensure BOMs, work orders, and materials are aligned with build schedules and properly staged for production.

What You Bring

A Builder’s Mindset

•        Ability to anticipate future material needs, supplier challenges, and production constraints well before they become problems.

Strategic Procurement Expertise

•        Proven track record of leading negotiations, driving cost improvements, and establishing long-term supplier partnerships.

•        Ability to evaluate, develop, and hold suppliers accountable through data, performance metrics, and consistent communication.

Supply Chain Planning Skills

•        Deep understanding of demand planning, inventory management, and procurement strategy in a build-to-order or engineering-driven environment.

•        Ability to translate sales forecasts, engineering roadmaps, and production schedules into proactive, well-organized procurement plans.

Operational Discipline & Systems Thinking

•        Strong ERP proficiency (Sage preferred) with an emphasis on BOM accuracy, item setup, and clean data management.

•        A process-driven approach that brings order, clarity, and reliability to purchasing and inventory operations.

Communication & Leadership

  • Skilled communicator who can influence suppliers, collaborate with engineering, and bring organization to a fast-paced small-business environment.
  • Comfortable working hands-on when necessary while maintaining a big-picture view of the entire supply chain function.

Work Environment

  • Full-time, on-site role at our Grandville, MI facility.
