Job Summary
Cookies United, a quality‑driven cookie manufacturer based in Islip, NY, is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead its procurement function. In this stand‑alone role, you will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and negotiating with suppliers to secure high‑quality raw materials, packaging, shipping supplies, and other goods at the best possible value. You will play a key role in optimizing the supply chain, controlling costs, and supporting smooth production operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Procure goods and services required to meet production and operational demands.
- Evaluate suppliers based on quality, price, reliability, technical support, and availability.
- Develop and implement effective purchasing strategies to optimize procurement processes and reduce total cost of ownership.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and payment terms with suppliers to secure favorable conditions.
- Collaborate closely with inventory control to forecast supply needs, manage inventory levels, and avoid stockouts or overstock.
- Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, food‑safety standards, and applicable regulations.
- Analyze spend data, market trends, and supplier performance to support data‑driven decision‑making.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position to support business needs.
Job Requirements
- Proficiency with procurement software and related tools.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills to secure favorable terms with suppliers.
- Ability to plan and manage the supply chain with a strategic, cost‑conscious mindset.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to influence cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent hands‑on experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably within food manufacturing or a regulated consumer‑goods environment.
- Financial acumen and understanding of total cost of ownership (TCO).
- Experience using procurement analytics and data to drive savings and process improvements.
Work Environment
- Primarily office‑based at the Islip, NY facility.
- Occasional travel may be required to visit suppliers, attend industry events, or support production sites.
