Job Summary Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an experienced Principal Design Engineer to join its Design Layout Technology team. The role involves designing, drawing, and revising PWB/PCB layouts and ensuring manufacturability. Primary Responsibilities Layout of PWBs/PCBs, flex circuits, interconnect routing, and drawing generation. Calculate layer stack-up based on industry standards, supplier capabilities, and engineering requirements. Create and document the required electronic data file outputs for fabrication and manufacturing. Interface with electrical and mechanical engineers to coordinate component placement, routing, and mechanical fitment for rigid, flex, and rigid‑flex assemblies. Apply knowledge of electrical and mechanical behavior of PWBs/PCBs to influence layout decisions such as impedance matching, differential pairs, strain, stress, and component orientation. Incorporate PWB/PCB change notices. Check designs and drawings for manufacturability. Coordinate and lead design reviews with engineering, quality, and manufacturing personnel. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in STEM field with 2 years of directly related professional experience or Master's degree with 6 years of experience in lieu of degree. Experience with drafting and design in PCB manufacturing and PWB layer stack‑up for digital, RF, mixed signal, and power supply CCAs. Experience with Cadence Allegro or similar CAD tool. Knowledge of industry specifications and design‑for‑manufacturing (DFM) rules for CCA and PWB design, fabrication and manufacturing. Ability to read drawings and schematic diagrams. US citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in STEM field. Experience in PCB fabrication, testing, and quality. Strong self‑organization and communication skills. Job Details Location: Rolling Meadows, IL (full‑time, on‑site). Travel: 10% of the time. Relocation assistance may be available. Salary and Benefits Primary Level Salary Range: $79,600.00 – $119,400.00. The range is a guideline; base salary may vary based on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills and market conditions. Additional compensation: overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and potential Long Term Incentives for senior positions.
