The Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) is a municipal department with approximately 2500 employees which provides water and wastewater treatment and services for the City of Philadelphia and some surrounding counties.
The Green Stormwater Operations Group (GSO) is a subdivision of the Operations branch within the Philadelphia Water Department. GSO is responsible for the management of activities related to the operation and functionality of publicly funded stormwater management practice (SMP) sites to ensure that their performance meets compliance obligations.
Job Description
The co-op/intern for the GSO group will be responsible for mostly office duties related to civil/environmental engineering and environmental science. There is a possibility of field duties. Field duties can include but are not limited to site inspection and assessment, data collection, visiting of sites during active construction and landscape installation at GSI projects, assistance in inspections of both surface and subsurface components, assistance with vegetation survivability studies, assistance with contractor oversite during retrofit projects.

This full-time co-op position, schedules will be determined during the interview. The position may require candidates to work hybrid schedules, which means in-person and remote workdays.
Qualifications
The co-op/intern should have an academic background balanced in engineering and environmental science (with respect to hydrology, plant ecology, silviculture, or horticulture.) Other desired skills include: Fast learner, Self motivated, Data processing skills, Attention to detail, Communication skills, and Adaptability.

- Office duties can include but are not limited to data management in Granitenet Software, analyzing pipe defects with NASCO PACP standards, evaluating field reports, reviewing stormwater design plans, various GIS exercises, marking up design plans, work order management/creation in CityWorks, and conducting research for various projects.
