Description Job Title: Quality Inspection Location: Santee, CA Department: Quality Reports To: Quality Assurance Manager FLSA Status: Full-time/Non-Exempt PI: Job purpose The primary function of this position is to inspect (using CMM Machine) materials including motors, reservoir seals, couplers, castings, bearing frames, and first article inspections for compliance with engineering drawings and company specifications before the manufacturing process. Approve items within specifications for transport to assembly area and recommend disposition of items not meeting standards. In addition, perform routine checks, tests positive material inspection (PMI), gauging, and instrument inspections of billet castings, bearing frames, goods in process, and finished goods. Duties and responsibilities Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Conducts examinations and quality control inspections on products, materials and components at various stages of the production process to ensure compliance with established quality and reliability standards. Assists in the analysis of processes to either confirm compliance with established standards or identify deviations from standards. Obtains blueprints and company specification sheet for the item and specific order. Determines inspection procedure to ensure complete verification of specifications and critical dimensions. Obtains necessary fixtures, gauges and indicators to check machine parts for compliance with specifications, within prescribed tolerances. Completes inspection reports. Creates, operates, and implements programs for CMM machine for inspection purposes (PREFERRED). Verifies identification of part and supplier (internal or outside supplier). Performs inspection procedures including checking dimensions of related surfaces, holes, etc., as well as assessment of finish and hardness and detection of cracks or other defects. Applies same procedures to machine parts manufactured by outside suppliers. Notifies QA manager and contacts supplier representative on questionable items, rejects unacceptable items and dispositions parts accordingly, and generates NCR or IRR as needed. First article inspection, in‑process inspection, final inspection and certified inspection. Presents re‑work possibilities of items outside specification limits and recommends re‑working where possible; otherwise dispositions for MRB. Completes required company paperwork on machine parts inspection activity. Final inspection of pump orders prior to shipping. Assists Engineering Department with information on machine part or potential or machinery capabilities. Performs calibration and maintains records for all company and personnel tools and gauges. Working conditions This job operates in a manufacturing environment. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Moderate machine noise exists. Proper protective clothing/eyewear/footwear is required. Requirements Skills and Qualifications At least five years’ experience as an inspector. Expert knowledge of blueprint reading, machinery and PC‑DIMIS. Excellent visual inspection ability, sufficient manual dexterity to handle and manipulate delicate parts and measuring instruments. Analytical capabilities to interpret detailed and complex drawings. Must have CMM or related experience. NO EXCEPTIONS. Knowledge of MS Office software. Physical requirements The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes. Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
