To provide expert level knowledge and performance for all aspects of the Casting Plant Quality Lab in order to ensure all products are produced to HL Mando/Customer requirements. Key Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned as needed): Primary operation and management of 2 Optical Emission Spectrometer machines located in Quality Bunker and Quality Lab. Including, data collection, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance. Collection of metal samples and preparation for analysis by grinding Perform Chemical Analysis using spectrometer to determine the elemental composition of metal samples. Conduct tensile tests, hardness tests, or other mechanical property evaluations on samples to assess the strength and durability of cast iron. Use of a microscope to examine the microstructure of iron for defects. Interpreting test results, documenting findings and generating detailed reports for quality control purposes, identifying and addressing non-conforming materials. Ability to stop the Production line when non-conforming material is suspected. Swift action and leadership of containment activities that may be required during NCR process Maintain meticulous records ensuring accuracy in all measurements and calculations. Cross functional Quality Support as needed. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (manufacturing, industrial, quality) preferred. Comparable experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree. 5 years of Quality Lab experience in a high-volume manufacturing facility is preferred. Special Consideration given to candidate with experience in a Casting Plant Lab, especially experience operating an Optical Emission Spectrometer. Skills and Competencies Some understanding of metallurgy, casting processes, and the relationship between chemical composition and mechanical properties. Ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and draw accurate conclusions Ability to use computer programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. Interpersonal Skills (relationship building, teamwork, conflict resolution) Communication (verbal communication, written communication, listening skills) Performance Skills (planning, organization, detail-oriented) Personal Characteristics (work ethic, integrity, continuous improvement mindset) Working Conditions A manufacturing casting plant with an ambient environment. PPE requirements include hard hat, safety toe shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection. Physical Requirements Prolonged standing and walking on concrete surfaces. Manual dexterity to handle tools and materials with precision. Bending, kneeling and the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
