Position Overview
The Junior Quality Microbiologist will support quality control operations by performing microbiological testing and environmental monitoring to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to maintain product integrity and support continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires strong attention to detail and adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Collect samples from various process systems, raw materials, and finished products for routine and non-routine testing
- Perform microbiological and related laboratory testing according to established procedures and documented methods
- Prepare reagents, standards, controls, and testing media required for laboratory analyses
- Conduct method suitability and validation testing, documenting and reporting results accurately
- Perform growth promotion testing for both purchased and internally prepared testing media
- Analyze and interpret test results while upholding data integrity and GLP principles
- Collect environmental samples and conduct aseptic sampling procedures to support process monitoring programs
- Perform basic organism identification using standard laboratory techniques
- Prepare laboratory investigation reports, excursion documentation, and non-conformance evaluations
- Coordinate sample preparation and shipment to external contract laboratories as needed
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and proper functioning of the laboratory environment
- Follow all applicable regulatory guidelines and internal quality systems
- Perform general laboratory calculations including dilutions, proportions, and percentages
- Utilize computer applications and laboratory information management systems (LIMS) to record and manage data
- Complete additional support duties as assigned
Required Experience/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution
- 1–2 years of professional laboratory experience in a biological or microbiological lab
- Experience in a GMP or FDA-regulated facility
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols
Preferred Experience/Skills
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring programs
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and contamination control practices
- Experience with laboratory investigations and non-conformance documentation
- Understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and data integrity principles
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline
- Coursework in microbiology, biochemistry, and laboratory techniques preferred
- Additional certifications in quality or microbiology are a plus
