Job Overview

The quality engineer is responsible for managing quality systems, procedures and standards for applicable production department/s in order to meet customer and company quality criterion.

Essential Job Functions

  • Comply with 6S and all other company policies, rules, and procedures at all times and ensure all production associates adhere as well.
  • Is aware of all company and customer quality concerns, ensures respect of auditing requirements in area and has responsibility/authority to handle non-conforming parts/products and escalate to quality manager.
  • Develop Sampling procedures and develop and implement instructions/forms for recording, evaluating and reporting quality in addition to reliability data.
  • Develop and implement standards/methods for inspection, testing and evaluation of in-process and finished goods.
  • Establish programs to evaluate precision of production/measuring/testing/analytical equipment and facilities (MSA).
  • Perform data analysis from process monitoring to aid in the reduction of variation within the process.
  • Assist in the development of and implementation of methods/procedures for disposition of non-conforming/suspect product and devise methods to assess cost and responsibility.
  • Direct quality personnel in measuring/testing product, as well as data organization for materials, product, or process quality and reliability
  • Compile training materials and conducts training sessions on quality activities.
  • Monitor and report STA performance at customer locations and facilitate corrective actions as needed.
  • Works with the development team on essential elements of the APQP process.
  • Work with customers and internal team members to develop limit samples.
  • Facilitate and compiles customer PPAPs.
  • Perform process and system audits and reports results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in engineering or equivalent technical field
  • 3-5 years experience in automotive quality
  • CQE and previous auditing skills (preferred)
  • Experience in Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing, QMS, ISO 9001/IATF 16949, 8D/5WHY/5P, control plans/FMEA/PPAP, six sigma (preferred), statistical skills (Minitab or similar, SPC, capability studies, DOE, F&T testing etc.)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to customer location on short notice as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to pass Munsell color test initially and on a yearly basis
  • Problem solving, logical thinking, self-motivated, team player, ability to multi-task
  • Proficient in English, basic math, MS Office/Project and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time including walking/squatting/pushing/climbing
  • May be subject to work with heavy machinery/high voltage/confined spaces
