Job Summary:
The Quality Engineering Manager at ATRO, LLC is responsible for ensuring total quality conformance for all products processed at ATRO. Overseeing the entire product lifecycle-from raw material receipt through molding to final shipping-this role serves as the Lead ISO Registrar Representative. The Manager maintains the QT9 QMS, oversees the Metrology Department (Keyence/MeasurLink), and drives a high-performance culture rooted in continuous improvement, safety, and supplier excellence directly reporting to VP Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Product & Process Control:
- Total Quality Conformance: Ensure all incoming materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods meet rigorous specifications, including packaging and shipping standards.
- Production Oversight: Review molding line outputs for conformance; execute First Piece and Last Article (LA) inspections.
- Testing & Metrology: Conduct functional testing on production parts and maintain the integrity of inspection databases, including MeasurLink, Keyence, and CMM programs.
- Engineering Collaboration: Review and approve new products and engineering changes; oversee the submission of PPAPs and other customer-mandated documentation
- 2.Quality Management System (QMS) & Compliance
- ISO Leadership: Serve as the Lead ISO Registrar Representative and Subject Matter Expert for ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and ISO 14001.
- System Administration: Manage all aspects of the QT9 QMS, including user permissions, document control, and training assignments.
- Audit Management: Lead the internal audit schedule, assign audits, and review/approve results as the Lead Internal Auditor.
- Safety & Regulatory: Monitor SDS documentation, update floor safety notebooks, and identify potential hazards to ensure workplace standards exceed compliance.
- Technical Methodology: Partner with Product Engineering to implement APQP, PPAP, and robust root-cause analysis methodologies.
- 3.Supplier & Material Management
- Inbound Quality: Define vendor acceptance plans and track material certifications from the sampling phase through full production.
- Vendor Relations: Partner with Purchasing and Manufacturing to manage supplier performance; issue non-conforming material reports and approve supplier Corrective Actions (CA).
- Outside Processing: Coordinate quality standards with outside processors, including machining and heat treatment providers.
- Gage Management: Oversee the selection, calibration, and tracking of all inspection gages.
- 4.RMA, Warranty, & Environmental Stewardship
- Returns & Warranty: Evaluate warranty claims and RMA requests; verify the quality of restocked items and coordinate their disposition.
- Waste Management: Track waste generation, ensure disposal via approved facilities, and submit required environmental reports to regulatory agencies.
- 5. Continuous Improvement & Data Analytics
- Problem Solving: Lead cross-functional teams to resolve internal and external quality issues. Initiate CAPAs and collaborate with operators to develop quality alerts and process control charts.
- Reporting: Generate daily quality metrics, specifically tracking scrap rates, case management and warranty metrics, and root causes.
- Operational Excellence: Identify and lead lean initiatives to drive efficiency, eliminate waste, and foster a culture of permanent improvement across the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or a related technical field.
- Experience: Substantial experience in Quality Management within a manufacturing environment (Automotive or Heavy-Duty Trucking preferred).
- Systems Expertise: High proficiency in QT9 QMS, MeasurLink, and Keyence inspection systems.
- Certifications: Certified Lead Internal Auditor (ISO 9001 or IATF 16949); ASQ certifications (CQE or CMQ/OE) are highly desirable.
- Technical Mastery: Expert-level understanding of PPAP, APQP, and root-cause analysis.
- Print Reading: Advanced ability to interpret complex product drawings/blueprints and develop associated test methods for internal and external manufacturing.
- Shop Floor Presence: Maintain a strong shop floor presence, providing direct support to production associates through active coaching, technical guidance, and the timely disposition of materials.
- Leadership: Proven track record of partnering effectively with cross-functional teams, including Purchasing, Materials, and Manufacturing.
