Position Overview: The role is responsible for batching and testing soft drinks and ensuring full quality control compliance within specifications. Responsibilities include chemical analysis of soft drinks (HPLC, filtration, distillation), microbiological testing (plate‑make‑up, aseptic techniques), equipment calibration, effluent / water sampling, and documentation control. LAB TECH Perform required tests in SPC data system at the standard frequency (CO2, brix, TA, air, codes, dew point, taste, odor, appearance, contents, sodium, etc.). Perform control drink tests and can seam checks as needed. Conduct weekly full‑round net content of filler. Perform valve troubleshooting and rebuilding. Assist, train, and mentor other lab techs on operational issues such as syrup problems, lab testing, CIP, micros, and filler changeovers. Assist with production report filing, formula updates, vendor information, and other lab documents. Verify and oversee water‑room testing and preventive maintenance. Ensure production schedules are current and communicated to all departments. Stay SQF ready by completing tours and following up on issues. Assist QA Manager or Supervisor as required. Maintain communication with production regarding schedules, changes, and syrup batch issues. Correct batch as needed based on control drink results. Ensure syrup tanks and high‑shear mixer are CIP‑cleaned and verified via Taste, Odor, and Appearance testing. Maintain weekly 7‑step CIP for each tank before batching sensitive products; use Chart Recorder. Ensure empty bags and containers are properly discarded. Follow all GMP guidelines at all times. Keep work area clean, organized, and overhead doors closed when not bringing in materials. Keep caps, gaskets, clamps, and other equipment clean and dry. Cap tanks and close doors after CIP. Provide backup for this position with another trained lab tech. Understand SQF, Food Safety/Food Quality responsibilities, and know who to notify for any issues. BATCHER TECHNICIAN Accurately follow batch instruction sheets and dispense & weigh dry ingredients by weight and lot number. Batch syrup using correct formulation and mixing instructions. Physically lift ingredient bags up to 50 lb and manually open 1‑ to 5‑gallon pails and jugs. Use HMI to request bulk ingredients. Operate CIP system and transfer cleaning chemicals. Review daily production schedules to coordinate products to be run. Maintain cleanliness of batching and sugar rooms. Ensure all safety standards (company or regulatory) and Company Good Manufacturing Standards are met at all times. Working Conditions Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet floors, humid, cold conditions, caustic chemicals, and high noise levels (hearing protection required). Occasional lifting up to 75 lb. Work involves walking, standing, hand use, tool handling, reaching, talking, hearing, sitting, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Vision requirements include close‑distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment. Position Requirements Soft drinks experience preferred. High school or equivalent education. BS/BA in a scientific field, preferably Microbiology, with at least one college–level Microbiology course. Understanding of GMP, lab safety, standard methods, and processes.
