Job Description
Schedule: Wednesdays: start time 7am. Additional shifts for coverage as needed.
Summary: To provide care, preparation and positioning of patients to obtain high quality diagnostic images utilizing ionizing radiation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates professional responsibility in the Radiologic Technologist role.
- Consistently observes safety and security procedures. Reports potentially unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Translates physician orders into appropriate diagnostic imaging procedures including age and growth/development needs. Performs radiographic examination of all anatomic structures as ordered by the physician. Instructs and supports patients during imaging. Provides radiation protection in accordance with hospital policy and procedures and ALARA as outline in NYS DOH Part 16.
- Provides culturally and age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
- Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information.
- Collaborates effectively with other disciplines as appropriate.
- Maintains patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPPA regulations.
- Notifies physician/supervisor promptly of any potential issues or reaction regarding examination. Maintains records as directed including computer records, assembles films. Obtains stat reports as required. Obtains accurate documentation of patient history pertaining to specific examination on requisition. Completes all electronic documentation required to send images to PAC's system for interpretation and EMR needs.
- Maintains records as directed, including all online documentation. Completes all steps necessary to ensure the exam is processed correctly and the images along with the clinical information are available for interpretation. Verifies quality of work and assists with concerns as needed.
- Maintains all radiographic equipment. Routinely cleans all equipment. Performs checks on equipment prior to exposing patients to ionizing radiation. Notifies supervisor of any equipment service issues.
- Other duties including; attends to mechanical safety needs of patients and personnel in assigned area, practicing sterile techniques when necessary; assists in cost effective use of patient supplies and inventory control in patient care areas; instructs and orients new and transferred technologists as requested; other duties as directed by supervisor.
- Assures materials are available to perform procedures. Assists physician in such procedures as fluoroscopy and special procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as may be required to meet emergencies. Complies with all quality assurance, customer focus, infection control, safety and all policies and procedures with the department.
