Full job description

Provides comprehensive services that support NYPAs underlying mission of delivering clean, reliable power to its customers. This includes the complete energy value chain of forecasting needs, trading, origination, fuel purchasing and energy management. Includes supporting technical analysis, compliance, and billing and settlement activities. Provides optimal business power allocation recommendations. Manages and operates the forecasting function which uses state-of-the-art methodologies for load forecasting challenges. Performs functions and activities related to energy trading and marketing.

Ensures successful trading by overseeing trading systems, reconciling positions, verifying market data, prices and product lists and monitoring exchange connectivity. Performs functions and activities related to energy trading including but not limited to short term trading, long term trading, real time trading, bidding, and marketing. In addition to transacting in financial and physical energy market with counter parties; Participates in New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) Day Ahead, Real Time energy and ancillary services markets. #LI-VB1

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze market conditions and develop bids for all NYPAs assets into the NYISO Hour Ahead Markets to meet established revenue targets.
  • Verify bid structure is consistent with current generator availability.
  • Revise bid strategies in response to emergency or unforeseen operating circumstances in coordination with the Plant Operations.
  • Coordinate and maintain hourly energy and ancillary balance between NYPA commitments / contract requirements and NYPAs supply resources.
  • Coordinate and schedule the fuel requirements for the fossil plant in conjunction with the Fuels Group.
  • Clearly communicate plant status and availability to appropriate personnel while maintaining trading log.
  • Support the Origination & Structuring team in managing the Retail Supply P&L and all elements of the energy supply business, including the design and marketing of clean energy products.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Wholesale Trading group (Energy Risk Management), Enterprise Risk, Finance, Sales, Marketing and Wholesale/Retail Operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of 2 or more of the following areas:
    • Wholesale electricity market
    • NYISO rules and requirements for market participation
    • Resource generation characteristics
    • Natural gas and oil industry
    • NERC and FERC regulations and compliance
  • Strong analytical and communication skills .
  • Skilled at adapting and responding to changes in the market and to plant conditions
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to identify and solve problems independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other computer applications

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of trading experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of NYISO experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

Real Time Traders, ability to work a 24/7 12-hour rotation, holidays and weekends.
