About this position
This non-permanent job is expected to last 2 years.


The Receiving/Sorting/Transportation Helper position represents Washington State Surplus Operations in the department line of Transportation and Receiving Services. Surplus Operations primary responsibilities are to keep State and Federal surplus property out of landfills (reutilizing property wherever possible) and to maximize the dollars that are returned to agencies. This position contributes to the agencys mission by promoting sustainability and savings while maximizing the useful life of state assets and dollars returned to agencies. The position's primary responsibility is being customer centric and delivering the best customer service to our partnering agencies and our purchasing customers.

The selected incumbent will be responsible for supporting the pick-up of surplus items, receiving, evaluating and the separation of state surplus property which is scheduled for redistribution or recycle. Other duties include working with the owning agency and their assets to maintain our 60-day commitment to return proceeds to disposing agencies by promptly returning all phone calls, and emails. You will also receive and count items in a warehouse inventory system and record the data either manually or on a computer.


This position is Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP) Designation for Disaster or Emergency Recovery. This means that the incumbent will need to support warehouse needs in the event of an emergency.

The Business Resources Division (BRD) within the Department of Enterprise Services (DES) provides a number of services to state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations. Services provided by the division include the Management Team, Print and Mail Services, Fleet Operations, and Surplus Operations.

Duties

Some of the duties you will be performing:
Supports the pick-up of surplus items from agency locations by assisting drivers with loads or performing deliveries in the non CDL box truck or van when needed

  • Using powered and manual pallet jacks, forklift, hand truck or reach truck to load and unload material, equipment, and supplies
  • Works with supervisor and peers to maintain a positive, proactive working relationship with public and priority customers and co-workers
Receiving of Surplus property and supplies for the warehouse and loading/unloading of surplus property from state and poly-sub vehicles
  • Sort, evaluate and assess appropriate disposition of all surplus items
  • Assist customers with the loading of items purchased in our warehouse
Provide customer service to both external and internal customers
  • Work directly with customers to ensure surplus loads get unloaded, staged and received in a timely manner

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or GED
    AND
  • Two (2) years of experience receiving and evaluating property with a large-scale government or commercial warehouse
  • The ability to lift 40 lbs. or more on a regular basis and 75 lbs. or more occasionally AND
  • A valid driver's license free from serious traffic violations

Work Setting: I Work is performed in a non-climate controlled warehouse and you will be exposed to excessive dust. Must be willing and able to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods in noisy conditions without loss of concentration.
Work Schedule: | Monday - Friday | 40 hours/week
Travel Requirements | Minimal
Customer Interactions | Contact with internal and external customers is frequent. Interpersonal skills are required. It is of the upmost importance that all communication is done with a positive attitude and in a professional manner. Must be able to answer questions about services and provide accurate information. Must be able to defuse customer concerns.
