As a Recess Coach you will implement structured recess activities to promote health and wellness at a local elementary school. You will promote a positive school climate at recess. Tasks will also include support of the city’s goal of minimizing childhood obesity. In this position, you will be placed at a school to run a recess activity program focused on teaching and organizing safe and inclusive games during recess. You will teach and promote conflict resolution tools to encourage safe and inclusive play. This position is specifically designed to promote daily physical activity as the norm for students less likely to participate.

Benefits

  • Pay rate: $25/hr
  • Part time: 6-15 hours a week Monday-Friday 2-4 hours/day (hours vary by site but will be between 9:00 and 1:00)
  • Off during BACR & School holiday
  • Stepping stone into career in education or recreation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience working with youth in a school or non-profit setting
  • Must have High School Diploma/GED
  • Must pass criminal background check & TB test clearance
  • A high degree of cultural awareness and competency in cross-cultural practice with children and families

Preferred

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement structured games, activities, and sports during recess
  • Create a safe, fun, and inclusive playground by developing and modeling standard agreements for behavior and conflict resolution skills, teaching kids and recess support staff the rules and strategies of the games, and recruiting disengaged students to participate
  • Provide student leadership opportunities at recess
  • Maintain daily schedules and paperwork
  • Communicate with school staff, teachers, families, and volunteers
  • Communicate with school administration regarding program implementation logistics and support needs
