Overview:

Position: Recreational Specialist Hours: Minimum 20 hours per week to start,
Location- In-Home (Edison NJ) and Center-Based Services(Dayton NJ)
About Us: We are a dedicated family seeking exceptional care and support for our only adult son, a smart and friendly 23-year-old individual on the autism spectrum. He currently attends a center program for 7 hours a week. We aim to create a nurturing environment where he can grow, learn, and enjoy life to the fullest. Training will be provided to ensure you have all the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in this role.
Job Responsibilities:
- Program Development: Create and implement recreational programs tailored to the unique needs and interests of our son, both in-home and at our center.
- Activity Facilitation: Lead group and individual activities designed to promote social interaction, physical fitness, and emotional well-being.
- Collaborative Planning: Work closely with interdisciplinary team members to develop personalized treatment plans.
- Ongoing Assessment: Continuously assess and document progress and participation in recreational activities.
- Safety Supervision: Ensure the safety and supervision of our son during all recreational outings and events, whether in-home or at the center.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years working with individuals on the autism spectrum, preferably teenagers or young adults.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and evidence-based practices in recreational therapy.
- Education: Bachelors degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university is required. New graduates may be considered.
- Certification: Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification required, or scheduled to take the exam upon hire.
- Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with our son and his family.
- Preferred Experience: Prior experience working in a multi-faceted environment, including centers, communities, and homes, is highly valued. A deep understanding of autism spectrum disorders and a willingness to continue learning and growing in this field are essential.
- Specialized Understanding: Familiarity with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and related sensory processing and integration issues is a plus.
