About the Role

The Refrigeration Assistant Supervisor supports daily operations, maintenance, and supervision of plant refrigeration systems, ensuring equipment operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising the refrigeration team to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems, compressors, condensers, evaporators, and related equipment.

  • Support scheduling and assignment of work orders, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs.

  • Ensure compliance with PSM, RMP, EPA, OSHA, and company safety policies.

  • Maintain detailed logs and records of maintenance, inspections, and system performance.

  • Support startup, shutdown, and defrost operations.

  • Train and mentor technicians on safety, procedures, and equipment operation.

  • Participate in system audits, inspections, and emergency response activities.

  • Monitor ammonia levels, pressures, and temperatures for system reliability and safety.

  • Coordinate with production, maintenance, and safety departments to minimize downtime.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, energy savings, and system optimization.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Five years of industrial refrigeration experience.

  • Technical training related to refrigeration systems.

  • RETA I IV Certification preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems, controls, and equipment.

  • Familiarity with PSM, RMP, and OSHA standards.

  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Computer proficiency for maintenance logging and reporting.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Predominantly wet and exposed to odors, hot and cold temperatures, ice box storage, and chilled warehouse conditions.

  • Exposure to moderate to extreme noise levels; safety protection provided.

  • Must be able to enter all plant areas and offices safely.
