Job Summary

The Department of Natural Resources is seeking to fill two (2) positions in Bemidji & Grand Rapids, MN. These positions support the DNR Fleet Program in the Northwest & Northeast Regions by coordinating vehicle services for internal and external customers. These positions perform logistical support and mechanic work as necessary, such as maintenance scheduling, and providing work direction to mechanics and other shop personnel. These positions are also responsible for the ordering and inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies. These positions carry out the DNR Fleet Program activities, so that fleet services are implemented in a timely, safe, cost effective and customer focused manner.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate receiving and upfitting of new fleet vehicles and equipment. Assist with ordering and installation of specialized equipment that meet work requirements and the divisions needs. Ensure delivered items received fulfill the purchase order specifications. Coordinate placement of fleet equipment with internal customers.
  • Assist Regional Fleet Supervisor and shop staff with fleet equipment maintenance, and repairs, in accordance with DNR standards and state and federal DOT regulations.
  • Serve as a backup for the Regional Fleet Supervisor for repair approvals and providing work direction to shop mechanics and technicians by prioritizing workload and incoming requests.
  • Coordinate seasonal loaner program activities for the Region.
  • Coordinate the disposal of fleet and non-fleet assets for the Region.
  • Coordinate fleet pool vehicles and equipment activities for the Region.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience in vehicle maintenance in an automotive shop, sufficient to perform mechanic work and provide direction to mechanics and shop personnel.
    • A two-year degree or certificate in maintenance or a closely related field may substitute for six (6) months of experience.
  • A valid Class A license or the ability to obtain one in the first 6 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment safety principles and shop hazardous materials management.
  • Knowledge of equipment repairs and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to obtain the MIP Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain the following ASE Certifications within 6 months of hire:
    • C1 Automotive Service Consultant.
    • P2 Automobile Parts Specialist.
  • Ability to analyze, problem solve and make decisions. This includes ability to make decisions under pressure and/or emergency situations to guide others, offer advice and reach logical conclusions.
  • Ability to identify the need for corrective actions and recommend alternative solutions.
  • Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to communicate expectations and requirements to internal and external customers and to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Skills in computer applications sufficient to effectively develop, modify and utilize reports in a database format (M5 database) and proficiently use Microsoft Office for word processing, spreadsheets, and email.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A two (2) year degree or certificate in maintenance or closely related field.
  • Current ASE certifications (C1, P2)
  • Knowledge of the State's policies, procedures, and state laws regarding purchasing and contracting.
  • Knowledge of state and federal DOT rules and regulations.

Additional Requirements

Driving duties are required.

This position requires current possession of a valid Class A license or the ability to obtain one in the first 6 months of employment. The selected applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and will be included in the ongoing DNR random drug and alcohol test program.
