Registered Diagnostic Medical SonographerPurpose of Position: Utilize high frequency sound waves to produce ultrasound images and related data used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis and perform the following duties.DescriptionSet up equipment when necessary and prepare patient for examination.Select the proper transducer, both type and frequency for examination.Obtain, review and retrieve pertinent patient history, physical exam and supporting clinical data to facilitate the physician in making the diagnosis.Positions patient on examination table and adjusts immobilization devices as required to obtain optimum views of specified area of the body requested by physician as determined by department policy and procedure.Provide explanation of procedures and answer pertinent questions of patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperationAssumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures to insure safety and comfort while preparing for and while undergoing ultrasound proceduresRequisitions supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services, and prepares related forms necessary for the continued operation of the department.Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures, to assure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures.Evaluates ultrasound images for technical quality.Maintain adequate radiology records and label all images to assure proper identification.Assist physician with special ultrasound procedures/needle biopsies.Instructs specific units of didactic and/or clinical education the ultrasound program.Maintain a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and Procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans.
