Job Description :
The Registered Nurse in the Outpatient Cardiology Clinic provides specialized nursing care and triage for cardiology patients preparing for or recovering from cardiac procedures. The role involves patient assessment, medication reconciliation, symptom evaluation, and patient education, ensuring safe and effective management of complex cardiovascular conditions. The nurse collaborates closely with providers and the interdisciplinary team to escalate urgent cases and support quality improvement initiatives in a fast-paced ambulatory setting.
Responsibilities:- Triage patient calls and messages using clinic protocols and provider direction.
- Perform patient assessments including symptom evaluation, vital signs, pain assessment, and health history.
- Obtain and interpret 12 lead EKG/ECG results and monitor arrhythmias.
- Reconcile medications and reinforce provider-ordered medication instructions.
- Assess anticoagulation status and monitor for post-procedure complications.
- Escalate urgent cases such as chest pain, shortness of breath, syncope, stroke-like symptoms, bleeding, unstable vitals, or vascular access issues.
- Provide patient education focused on lifestyle modification and medication adherence.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and team collaboration efforts.
- Document patient care and communications accurately in EPIC electronic medical records.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in an outpatient cardiology clinic and triage setting.
- Proficient in assessment, medication reconciliation, and cardiac monitoring including arrhythmia interpretation.
- Competency in obtaining and interpreting 12 lead EKG/ECG.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
- CPR and Cardiac Arrest management skills.
- Knowledge of hypertension, AED use, oxygen administration, and neurological assessment.
- Strong communication and patient education skills.
- Experience with cardiac catheterization, PCI/stent placement, electrophysiology procedures, structural heart procedures, and vascular/interventional studies.
- Familiarity with anticoagulation management and post-procedure complication monitoring.
- Quality improvement and team collaboration experience.
- This is a 32-week contract position covering a caregiver on leave.
- Role is ambulatory clinic-based; no procedural sedation or intra-procedure cath lab nursing unless credentialed.
- No on-call, weekend, or float requirements.
- Open to local, non-travel, and true traveler candidates.
- Adherence to clinic protocols for triage and escalation is critical.
- Monday through Friday, 5 days per week.
- 8-hour shifts from 08:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
- No weekend or holiday shifts required.
