South Jersey Behavioral Health Resources, Inc. (SJBHR), an affiliate of Apis Services, Inc, is a fully licensed non-profit behavioral health agency that has been providing comprehensive and innovative mental health services to adults, children, and families for over 25 years.

We are seeking a full time Registered Nurse in our Community Support Services program. Under the supervision of the Director of Nurses, the Staff Nurse (RN) provides ongoing assessment of assigned consumer's medical and psychiatric condition, and medication and medical education to consumers, families, and other staff.

Essential Duties

Conduct a comprehensive nursing assessment for each consumer assigned, and a follow up assessment every 90 days.

Ensure new consumers have an initial physical examination on admission and annually.

Assess consumer medical needs and arrange for appropriate medical treatment and follow up in conjunction with other team members.

Review the outcome of each medical appointment and arrange follow up appointments or recommended diagnostic testing.

Assess the consumer's knowledge of any medical condition. Provide education to the consumer and others involved in their care.

Perform an ongoing assessment of the consumer's awareness and compliance with prescribed medications and provide medication education to them and to others involved in their care.

Administer injectable medication to consumers.

Work with consumers to help them resolve issues related to obtaining medication with a goal of increased independence.

Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.

Work closely with residential management in meeting the dietary restrictions of identified consumers as well as providing other consumers a healthy meal plan.

Routinely meet with residential counselors to provide guidance on documentation, implementation of service plans, address medical issues or concerns and provide assistance on any medical devices our consumers may be using.

Report evidence of the presence of communicable disease and gather appropriate information.

Participate in the agency-wide infection control committee.

Work closely with residential management on issues related to consumer's medication and medical needs and appointments.

Conduct monthly medication audits.

Coordinate consumer health information amongst all healthcare providers including agency programs.

Maintain accurate and complete records.

Participate in continuing education activities to maintain knowledge and skills required for professional competency in order to provide the best quality of care.

Perform in agency committees and task forces as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must have and maintain a current license as a Professional Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred.

Must have experience working in a psychiatric setting as a Registered Nurse.

CPR and First Aid Certification required upon hire.

Valid driver's license required, and your driver record must meet our insurance carrier's requirements.

Regular access to a licensed, registered vehicle. You will use our company vehicle for any consumer transport that is needed, but the consumers in this division are living independent of the agency in the community and that is where you will visit them.

Must have the ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. Proficiency in American Sign Language or Braille may satisfy this requirement.

Must have the ability to use various types of electronic, computer and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, the office, or related units.

Qualified applicants with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long as they can perform the essential functions of the job after reasonable accommodation is made to known limitations without causing the employer undue hardship.
