Job Description: Registered Nurse – Surgical Rehab

Overview: We are seeking a compassionate, highly-skilled, and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgical Rehab team. As an integral member of our rehabilitation team, you will provide exceptional care to patients recovering from surgery, with a focus on rehabilitation, pain management, and overall recovery. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, the ability to think critically in fast-paced environments, and a commitment to ensuring the well-being and recovery of our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care: Provide direct nursing care to patients recovering from surgery, focusing on pain management, mobility assistance, wound care, and monitoring for complications. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and closely monitor patient progress.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement personalized care plans for each patient.
  • Assessments and Monitoring: Perform thorough assessments of patient conditions, including vital signs, neurological status, respiratory function, and cardiovascular status. Monitor surgical site for signs of infection or complications.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about recovery procedures, self-care techniques, and post-surgical restrictions. Provide guidance on rehabilitation exercises, medication schedules, and follow-up care.
  • Documentation: Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and progress in the electronic health record (EHR). Maintain up-to-date patient files and ensure proper communication of patient status to the healthcare team.
  • Pain Management: Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to assess and manage pain effectively, ensuring patient comfort while adhering to clinical protocols.
  • Rehabilitation Support: Assist patients with rehabilitative exercises and encourage active participation in their recovery. Provide emotional support to help patients navigate the physical and psychological challenges of rehabilitation.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to all hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory standards. Promote a safe and supportive environment for patients and staff.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies as needed, including recognizing signs of post-surgical complications, cardiac arrest, or other critical conditions and providing appropriate interventions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
  • Experience: At least 1-2 years of nursing experience, preferably in surgical or rehabilitation settings. Experience in post-operative care is a plus.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
  • Skills: Strong clinical skills with the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to patient care. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing patient needs.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and move patients and equipment, stand for long periods, and assist patients with mobility.
