Summary
The Renewable Project Development Director is responsible for leading development and execution of renewable energy projects for NYPA, as well as supporting the VP, Renewable Project Development, and the President, NYPA Development in crafting the Departments vision and business plan.
The Director will have experience managing large-scale renewable energy projects during different stages of development through commercial operation. The position will work collaboratively with cross-functional groups and internal and external stakeholders on the development of projects and partnerships. Through these activities, the position will play a key role in achieving NYPAs underlying mission to advance a clean energy future and the economic growth and competitiveness of New York State.

Responsibilities
- Lead development activities in early, mid, and late stages of large-scale renewable energy projects.
- Drive origination, and identify project opportunities including green field development, M&A, and other potential partnerships to support project pipeline growth.
- Assess feasibility of pipeline projects including technical, financial, and regulatory aspects and ensure alignment with policy and NYPAs strategy and identifying key risks.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including real estate, engineering, permitting, legal, finance, and other stakeholders for maturing projects from early to late-stage development including preparing bids/proposals.
- Negotiate key project and partnership contracts to maximize project value.
- Participate in industry events, trainings, and conferences, as needed to stay up to date on market intelligence, and represent NYPA as industry leader.
- Knowledge of renewable generation technologies and power system requirements for the interconnection of renewable projects.
- Advanced project management skills with ability to communicate clear objectives, prioritize tasks, and manage deadlines.
- Ability to interact directly and independently with NYPAs senior management as well as senior management of external organizations and government officials.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and expresses ideas clearly, concisely, and logically, with advanced business savvy.
- Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to align internal functions, communication and concurrence during project development, licensing, compliance, and
- implementation.
- Strong business writing and verbal presentation skills are required.
- Ability to disseminate information, evaluate facts, determine alternative solutions to problems, and reach sound management and business decisions.
- Strong negotiating skills with the ability to negotiate NDAs, MOUs, PPAs and definitive agreements necessary to successfully develop projects.
- Bachelors degree required.
- Minimum 10 years of related experience with at least 7 years of experience in energy infrastructure projects required.
- Utility or energy experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience developing or executing renewable generation and/or energy storage projects is preferred.
- Experience interfacing with transmission organizations (NYISO and TOs) for interconnection related issues and familiarity with energy markets is preferred.
- Approximately 20% travel within NY State.
- Valid drivers license required.
- Ability to attend meetings/events outside of normal business hours.
