We seek a motivated and detail-oriented Research and Drafting Specialist to join our Construction Services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research related to subsurface utilities, drafting utility plans, and assisting with setting up GIS (Geographic Information Systems) layouts for field crews. This position requires a blend of technical drafting, data analysis, and field coordination skills to support utility engineering projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Research & Data Collection:
    • Conduct detailed research on subsurface utilities using various data sources, including as-built drawings, utility records, and historical maps.
    • Coordinate with utility companies, municipalities, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information for projects.
  • Drafting & Engineering Support:
    • Draft utility layouts, site plans, and detailed drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD or similar).
    • Ensure all drafts comply with industry standards, company guidelines, and project specifications.
  • GIS Layouts & Support:
    • Assist with setting up basic GIS layouts and configurations to be used by field crews for data collection and utility identification.
    • Integrate utility data into GIS systems and maintain accurate and updated records for project use.
    • Support field teams by providing relevant GIS maps and data, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Field Crew Coordination:
    • Collaborate with field crews to accurately interpret drawings, GIS maps, and project specifications.
    • Provide technical support to field teams for troubleshooting utility identification issues during site surveys.

Requirements

  • Education:
    • High school or GED equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other CAD software.
    • Experience with GIS platforms.
    • Knowledge of SUE principles and utility coordination processes is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and synthesize data from various sources.
    • Attention to detail and a strong ability to produce accurate technical drawings.
    • Familiarity with local and national utility regulations and standards.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Certification in SUE, GIS, or drafting is highly desirable.
    • Previous experience working with utility companies or on engineering projects.
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
