Department : 85047 Wake Forest University Health Sciences - Academic Public Health Sciences Status : Full time Benefits Eligible : Yes Hours Per Week : 40 Schedule : M-F 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Pay Range : $30.70 - $46.05 Job Summary : Provide departmental faculty with administrative support to facilitate the timely submission and post‑award management of research endeavors. The incumbent will serve as an ombudsman and liaison to the Office of Research, coordinate pre‑ and post‑award services, supervise day‑to‑day research activities, and make staffing recommendations to the Business Administrator. Additional duties include distributing and assigning workload as appropriate. Education / Experience : Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education; four years of experience with grant application preparation and/or grant budget management. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – PRE‑AWARD Support faculty research interests by identifying potential sponsors and programs, tracking funding opportunities, and facilitating collaboration within the department. Facilitate grant and/or contract submission by providing training and guidance, preparing applications, and ensuring compliance with institutional requirements. Assist faculty in obtaining and reviewing guidelines for requests for proposals and applications, electronic submission to extramural agencies, and finalizing proposals before submission to the Office of Research. Work with the Business Manager and faculty to create awareness of funding opportunities and deadlines, and process grants to the Office of Research. PROJECT DEVELOPMENT / PROPOSAL SUBMISSION Assist faculty in coordinating proposal components for multi‑investigator awards. Create grant budgets from investigator outlines, prepare supporting documents, and help with budget justification. Coordinate and review subcontracts and grant applications, manage negotiation correspondence, and recommend approval of draft agreements. Facilitate departmental communications, participate in training sessions, and prepare information for institutional publications. Act as a liaison to the Office of Research and extramural agencies for contract and grant applications. POST‑AWARD MANAGEMENT Prepare re‑budgeting requests, compile financial progress reports, and document equipment acquisition. Serve as liaison to the Office of Research to assist with sponsor updates, coordinate time and effort information, and approve personnel actions related to projects. Oversee HR transactions for grant accounts, ensure accurate salary postings, and track research time and effort. COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT Prepare regulatory documents such as ACUC, IRB, radiation safety, and biosafety protocols; review submissions and advise faculty on regulatory changes. Orient new researchers to departmental and WFUHS procedures. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, and external sponsors. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Computer literacy. Supervisory experience.
