Job Description

Applications are invited for a full-time research associate position in the lab of Dr.
Jamie Edgin (Professor and Chair) in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech.
The lab studies the memory development and sleep, with a particular emphasis on
individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. We combine methods of
neurophysiology (i.e., sleep assessment), neuroimaging, and neuropsychological
assessment, including eyetracking protocols, to better understand how individuals can learn and remember across contexts, including situations of trauma, risk, or sleep deprivation.

The individual who fills this position will be involved in all aspects of the research
process and duties related to launching a new research lab, including (but not limited
to):
  • Assisting with grant applications, IRBs, and manuscript preparation
  • Coordination of day to day lab operations
  • Collecting, entering, managing, and ensuring quality of data
  • Recruiting, screening, scheduling, consenting, and running participants through study protocols.
  • Supervising research assistants
  • Community outreach for recruitment
  • Assisting with data processing and analysis across local and multi-site projects

Flexible scheduling is required (e.g., evenings, weekends, and some holidays will be
required). Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to make a four-year
commitment.

Required Qualifications

1) MA or PhD in psychology or a related field.
2) Demonstrated skills in managing and conceiving research, including grant writing or
research dissemination
3) Demonstrated ability and desire to conduct research with special populations or
children
4) Data processing skills and training in advanced statistical approaches

Preferred Qualifications

1) Experience conducting or assisting with MRI scans or EEG
3) Demonstrated ability to work with data programs (e.g., REDCap; SPSS; R;
MATLAB).
