About the Team The Proactivity Research team, within OpenAI’s Personal AGI team, focuses on building proactive AI for ChatGPT and future products. It lays the technical foundations for AI that anticipates user needs, adapts to goals and preferences, and deeply understands the user. About the Role Research Engineer / Scientist position. Research and develop personalization and agentic capabilities for models. Work on reinforcement learning, dataset creation, evaluations, and post‑training methods. Collaborate with research and product teams to realize a highly personalized, proactive assistant. Responsibilities Own & pursue a research agenda to improve model proactivity and assist user goals. Build robust evaluations for tracking modeling improvements. Design, implement, test, and debug code across the research stack. Collaborate closely with research and product teams to shape technical solutions in the product. Qualifications & Attributes Strong ML engineering skills and research experience with novel, high‑performance models. Deep understanding of machine learning and applications. Knowledge of large‑language‑model post‑training and evaluation approaches. Passion for personalization and enabling users to achieve their goals. Comfortable debugging large ML codebases. Thrives in a dynamic, technically complex environment. Location & Work Model This role is based in San Francisco, CA. Hybrid work model: 3 days in office per week. Relocation assistance offered.
